There’s something special about watching the sunset from the water, especially somewhere as beautiful as Bonaire.

During our week on the island, we spent our days snorkeling, exploring different beaches, and driving around to see as much of Bonaire’s unique landscape as possible.

But after a few busy days of adventuring, we wanted an evening that felt a little slower—something where we could simply relax and enjoy the island without rushing off to the next stop.

That’s exactly what made the Sushi Sunset Boat Tour with Drinks with Captain Jack Bonaire stand out.

Departing from Harbour Village Marina, this two-hour sunset cruise combined everything we were looking for: fresh sushi, unlimited drinks, beautiful views of Bonaire’s coastline, and a small-group atmosphere that made the entire evening feel relaxed and personal.

After experiencing it ourselves, I can confidently say it was one of our favorite things we did in Bonaire.

When planning our 7-day Bonaire itinerary, we wanted to include at least one experience that felt a little more special than simply spending another evening at dinner.

After several days of snorkeling, exploring Washington Slagbaai National Park, and driving around the island, a relaxing sunset cruise sounded like the perfect way to slow down and soak in another Caribbean evening.

Since this was a group trip with friends (and kiddos!), we were looking for something that everyone could enjoy.

Over the years, we’ve realized that sunset cruises have quietly become one of our favorite ways to experience a new destination.

Three of us—Tim, Courtney, and I—have been lucky enough to enjoy a few different sunset cruises together, and after an incredible sunset catamaran cruise in Santorini, we knew we wanted to see Bonaire from the water as well.

We considered a few different sunset boat tours, but this one stood out because it combined dinner, drinks, and a relaxed evening on the water instead of feeling like a party cruise.

This was especially important for us, since our group included a couple of toddlers. 

Since we were staying at Harbour Village Beach Club, the departure point couldn’t have been more convenient.

We simply walked over to the marina, checked in with the crew, and were on the boat within minutes.

At $85 per person, it definitely wasn’t the cheapest activity we did in Bonaire, but considering it included a two-hour boat cruise, dinner, drinks, and a small-group experience, it felt like a worthwhile splurge.

Boarding was quick and easy.

The crew welcomed everyone aboard, helped us get settled, and immediately made the atmosphere feel relaxed.

One thing we really appreciated was the size of the boat.

Because Captain Jack limits each tour to just 12 guests, the boat never felt crowded. Everyone had plenty of room to spread out and enjoy the views.

Our group included eight people—including toddlers—and there was only one other couple joining us. A funny coincidence, we realized they’d actually been on our flight to Bonaire, and we had a great time chatting with them throughout the evening.

With such a small group, conversations flowed naturally and it almost felt like spending the evening on a friend’s boat rather than a commercial excursion.

As we left Harbour Village Marina, Bonaire slowly began to look different than it had from land.

If you’ve never experienced a sunset cruise, there’s something incredibly relaxing about seeing a destination from the water at golden hour. 

The island’s coastline stretched out beside us while the Caribbean Sea remained calm, making for a smooth ride.

Unlike some sunset cruises that feel more like floating parties, this experience was peaceful.

There was music playing softly in the background, people chatting over drinks, and plenty of time to simply enjoy being out on the water.

Watching Bonaire from offshore definitely gave us a new perspective on the island.

I’ll admit that I wasn’t sure what to expect from sushi served on a boat.

Unlike many dinner cruises where the food feels like an afterthought, the sushi was genuinely something we looked forward to throughout the evening. 

Thankfully, it exceeded our expectations.

Not only was the sushi fresh and delicious, but there was also more than enough food for everyone onboard.

After our first individual platters disappeared, additional sushi was brought out, so no one left hungry.

It’s one thing to include dinner as part of an excursion. It’s another when the food actually becomes one of the highlights of the evening.

Whether you’re a sushi lover or simply enjoy trying local experiences, this was such a fun and memorable way to enjoy dinner in Bonaire.

Drinks were included throughout the cruise, and the crew did a fantastic job making sure everyone’s glasses stayed full.

Beer, wine, water, and soft drinks were all available, and we never had to go searching for someone when we wanted another drink.

Combined with the warm Caribbean breeze, beautiful evening light, and the relaxed pace of the sunset cruise, the atmosphere felt effortlessly relaxing.

There was no rushed schedule.

No loud music competing with conversation.

Just good food, cold drinks, and one of those evenings where everyone naturally slowed down.

This was the moment that made the entire experience worth it.

As the sun slowly dipped toward the horizon, the sky transformed from bright blue to shades of deep orange and pink.

The reflections danced across the water, while Bonaire slowly faded into silhouette behind us.

For a few minutes, everyone became noticeably quieter.

Phones came out for a few pictures, but then many of us simply sat back and watched.

These are the kinds of travel moments that stay with you long after the trip is over.

We’ve watched the sun set from boats in a few different places over the years, but what made Bonaire stand out was how peaceful the entire experience felt.

There were no crowds, no packed catamaran, and no rush to the next stop—just calm water, good company, and a beautiful Caribbean sunset. 

For us, absolutely.

Of all the paid activities and excursions we booked during our trip, this is one we’d happily do again.

Here are a few things I’d recommend before your cruise:

• Book ahead since space is limited.
• Arrive a little early for check-in.
• Charge your phone or camera or bring a portable charger—you’ll definitely want sunset photos.
• Wear reef-safe sunscreen before boarding if you’re cruising during the summer. Even in the evening, the Caribbean sun can be strong during the first part of the cruise.

You honestly don’t need much!

A Broad Recommendation: Bring a light layer even if it feels warm during the day. Once the sun goes down and you’re moving across the water, the breeze can feel cooler.

If you’re trying to decide whether this tour deserves a spot on your Bonaire itinerary, my answer is an easy yes.

Between the calm Caribbean water, fresh sushi, flowing drinks, and an unforgettable sunset, it was the perfect way to slow down and simply enjoy being in Bonaire.

What made this experience stand out most, though, was how personal it felt.

Instead of a crowded party boat, it felt like spending the evening out on the water with friends—a big part of what made it one of our favorite memories from the trip.

Out of everything we experienced during our week in Bonaire, this is one of the activities we’d book again without a second thought.
